Installation Guide

Warning

ShapeMachine can only be installed in Rhino 8. Make sure you’re on the latest version!

Installing the Plugin

  1. Download the shapemachine .yak file from the SharePoint.

  2. Completely close Rhino if it was already open, then open Rhino.
    • Without closing Rhino, you’ll likely run into an error. This is similar to “Cannot delete this file because it is open in another program”, which you may have seen before.

  3. Execute the following command in the command bar (Copy and Paste):

    !-_PackageManager i b

  4. Select the shapemachine .yak file that you downloaded.

  5. Completely restart Rhino in order to finish the installation process.

This process automatically makes the most recently installed version the one that Rhino will use.

Setting up the Toolbar

If you had a previously installed version of ShapeMachine and the toolbar has changed since that version, follow these steps before following the steps in the dropdown below. If you have not installed ShapeMachine before, or you know the toolbar hasn’t changed since your latest-installed version of ShapeMachine, you can skip these steps.

Note

If you’re unsure if the toolbar has changed, check the Changelog.

Updating an Existing Toolbar
  1. Run the following command: PlugInManager.

  2. Search for “ShapeMachine” and uncheck the box under “Enabled”.

  3. Restart Rhino completely.

  4. Repeat steps 1 and 2, this time checking the box to re-enable Shape Machine.

  1. Run the following command: PlugInManager.

  2. Search for “ShapeMachine” and uncheck the box under “Enabled”.

  3. Run the following command: Toolbar.

  4. Select “ShapeMachine” from the Toolbars and Toolbar Groups dropdown.

  5. Select the File dropdown and select “close Shape Machine”.

Note

You may need to repeat steps 4 and 5 if there are multiple versions of “ShapeMachine” included in the dropdown.

  1. Restart Rhino completely.

  2. Repeat steps 1 and 2, this time checking the box to re-enable Shape Machine.

Proceed to the next steps to enable the new toolbar.

  1. Run the following command: SMSetup

    • This is a dummy command that loads the ShapeMachine plugin.

  2. Run the following command: Toolbar.

  3. Find the dropdown or selection box that has the word “default” in it. If it’s a dropdown, select it and change it to “ShapeMachine”. If it’s a selection box, select “ShapeMachine”.

  4. You should see a bunch of different toolbars you can add. You can configure your own, but we’d suggest just enabling the toolbar called “_ShapeMachine”.

Note

In addition to this toolbar, there is a “classic” toolbar that uses icons that are closer to the original icons used in older versions of Shape Machine. To get this toolbar, you can download it from the SharePoint where you downloaded Shape Machine. Look under the Toolbars folder for ShapeMachineClassic.rui. Then after you run Toolbar, go to File > Open and select ShapeMachineClassic.rui. This toolbar is identical in content to the other toolbar, but with different icons.
